------------------------------------------------------------------
mIrc

If you prefer to utilize your favorite mIrc software, use the following settings to connect:

                                /server jirc.mircx.com:8080
                                /join #PCjr_Reborn

Connecting with a PCjr

This is a little more fun, and requires the following PCjr setup for optimal performance:

                                          - PCjr (duh)
                                          - 640kb RAM
                                          - Internet Connection
                                          - Xircom PE3-10BT parallel port Ethernet adapter
                                          - (If you have broadband, this is true, tried and tested)
                                          - Intscr.dat DEBUG fix  (see "mods" page) Thanks to Mike Brutman
                                          - PE3 packet drivers (see "mods" page)
                                          - Trumpet TCP/IP drivers (see "mods" page)
                                          - IRCABI (DOS-based Trumpet IRC program)

I have successfully gotten this way of utilizing IRC to work with the PE3-10BT.  I
have not yet tested the ability of the PCjr to work with Trumpet or connect online
to a current-day internet provider with the IBM PCjr 300 baud internal modem,
or with the use of an external Hayes 2400 baud modem.  Unless the ISP drops the
connection, I don't know why it shouldn't work.

                        - Load DOS 3.3 or better, and make a bootdisk using A>format /s
                        - Save a copy of "Intscr.dat" to your new DOS bootdisk
                        - Copy PE3PD.COM to your new disk
                        - Copy NTCPDRV.EXE to your new disk

                        * With the next step, you will need your IP information from your ISP.

                        - Create an Autoexec.bat file using A:>copy con autoexec.bat
Enter the following and replace "xxx" with your ISP information!:
                                Debug > intscr.dat
                                PE3PD.COm SINT=61
                                NTCPDRV.EXE -ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -gateway=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -netmask=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -dns-host=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Press FN-6 (^Z) and press enter

                        -  Reboot using your newly created DOS disk.
                          -  After it's loaded, put in a disk with the IRCABI.COM

The first thing that will appear will be the setup menu
                                - for server enter   jirc.mircx.com:8080
name enter   place your email address here
full name enter  place your full name here
nick enter  enter the name you wish to go by in the chat room

                            - press enter.  Your settings will be saved.  At this point, IRCABI should start
to connect automatically to the IRC server.  If not reboot and run IRCABI.COM
                              again
                            -  After connecting, type       /join #Pcjr_Reborn
                            -  Press Enter
                            -  You should now be in the #PCjr_Reborn forum.  Because of incompatibilities
between this older DOS software and current day server software, you will
receive an ERROR 421 "No Text to Send" if you try to type to the room.  This
can be fixed by pressing ALT-Q  (Query - which is like a private chat) and when
asked which user to "Query", simply type in the name of the room, in this case
                                type in #PCjr_Reborn
                            -  Have FUN!!!
